Justitia Board of Management

The Board of Directors of Justitia are all Legal Practitioners, geographically spread throughout New Zealand to bring a diversity of perspective to the leadership.

The Board elects the Chairperson and appoints the secretary, insurance consultants and auditors. All insured members of the Incorporated Society are invited to an Annual General Meeting.

    John Bierre is Morgan Coakle’s senior litigation and disputes resolution Partner.  John has specialised in insurance, commercial and civil litigation for more than 25 years.  The majority of John’s work is conducted in the High Court but he appears regularly at all Court levels, including a number of times in the Court of Appeal.  John regularly presents at forums on civil and insurance law topics.  He is a member of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and the New Zealand Society of Construction Law.

    Susan is a Director at PKF Kendons Chartered Accountants.  

    Susan joined the Justitia Board as Secretary in 2021, and is also a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and admitted barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

    Outside of Justitia, Susan is an experienced accountant and specialist tax advisor.

    Duncan is an insurance specialist with over 25 years of expertise, focusing on professional indemnity, statutory liability and medical malpractice defence. His extensive experience encompasses both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. 

    Duncan has been a partner at Duncan Cotterill for 20 years. He has been a member of the Justitia board for over a decade.

    Kate is a civil and commercial litigation partner at Tompkins Wake.  She lives in Cambridge and practises in the Waikato and Auckland. Prior to joining Tompkins Wake in 2010, Kate worked at Chapman Tripp in both Wellington and Auckland.

    Bruce lives and practises law in Nelson. He has practised law for over 45 years and has served on a number of charitable boards and sporting bodies.

    Rick is director of Bay of Islands firm Palmer Macauley which was established by his father in 1953.  Having spent ten years as a lawyer in the UK including four as a partner in a large UK firm Rick returned to Northland in 1998 where he specialises in business law.

    Caroline has practiced insurance law in New Zealand and the United Kingdom for over 20 years and is currently a partner at Wotton + Kearney New Zealand. She is ranked a leading individual for insurance law in New Zealand by The Legal 500 and a Band 2 individual for insurance by Chambers & Partners. Caroline also has extensive governance experience in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors and has completed the Company Directors’ Course.
